Are You Eating These 7 Healthy Foods?

How healthy is your diet? Are you eating all of the healthy foods you should be, or are you struggling to cut unhealthy junk food from your life? There are a lot of foods to avoid, a few to cut back on, and a number that you need to eat a lot more of. Below is a list of some of the healthiest foods on the planet. If you're not eating them, it's time to start!

Sardines

All fatty fish are excellent for your health, but few of them are quite as good as sardines. Like salmon, sardines are packed to the gills (yes, pun intended) with Omega-3 fatty acids, which improve heart health, reduce inflammation, prevent join pain, boost memory and concentration, and so much more. Sardines are also loaded with protein and Vitamin D, and, best of all, they are one of the safest fish you can eat.

Oatmeal

Oats are healthy in all their forms, but none quite as wonderful as oatmeal. When the oats are cooked, it's easier for your body to digest the nutrients--thus ensuring a quick boost of energy. There is a lot of fiber in the oats, meaning that they will sit in your stomach and stop you from being full for a lot longer. Oats will give you the energy you need to do that workout, but without causing blood sugar spikes and crashes!

Kale

You may not like the bitter flavor of kale (very few people do at first), but it's worth choking the dark leafy green down anyways! Kale is packed with cancer-fighting antioxidant, more than almost any other vegetable on the menu. You also get a ton of Vitamin A from kale. Vitamin A is needed to keep your eyes and skin healthy, and it plays a role in your immune health as well. Plus, you get lots of Vitamin C to boost your immunity, fiber to improve your heart health, and calcium to keep your bones healthy and strong. DEFINITELY worth adding to the menu!

Kefir/Yogurt

Both kefir and yogurt deserve a special place in your fridge. The former is a sort of yogurt-like drink made from goat's milk, and it contains live bacteria cultures that will aid in digestion and improve gut health. Both yogurt and kefir contain a lot of calcium, so they will improve bone health, aid in fat burning, and keep you healthy overall!

Pomegranate

The amount of work that goes into eating one of these Middle Eastern fruits is absolutely worth it! Not only are these fruits filled with antioxidant to fight cancer, boost immunity, improve heart health, and more, but they can help to prevent free radicals from causing internal damage. The seeds are loaded with healthy fiber, which will both prevent overeating and improve digestion. All in all, a wonderful fruit you should be eating a whole lot more of.

Quinoa

You may have heard of this grain before, but don't knock it until you try it! It is one of the healthiest of not only the ancient grains, but all the grains on the planet. It contains all nine essential amino acids your body needs to make protein (something that no other grains have), and you get a whole lot of fiber, vitamins, and minerals from the little grains.

Legumes

If you want to have a healthy body, it's definitely time to add more legumes to your life. Beans, lentils, chickpeas, and split peas are just a few of the legumes that you should be eating. Thanks to their high protein and fiber content, you get a whole lot of nutrition with very few calories. Best of all, legumes are packed with antioxidants and flavonoids!
