How Many Calories Is It Possible for Human Beings to Burn Each Day?
Regardless of all of the messages sent forth by the fad diets of today, the amount of calories that an individual takes into their system on a given day actually is important. The bottom line is still that there are 3500 calories that must be burned in order to lose 1 pound of body weight. Animals burn calories by performing activities - any activities, even thinking and sleeping! However, as a given activity increases in vigor, the amount of calories burned also increases. In essence, the amount of calories that you can burn is dependent upon your body weight - and the intensity with which you are performing a given activity.
Firstly, you should understand that health professionals around the world advise losing weight slowly and consistently. No matter how much you want to, you can't do it all at once! Additionally, those who do lose a lot of weight rapidly are very prone to regaining it - and in many cases, they even gain more back than they lost. As a rule of thumb, you should only attempt to lose 1/2 to 1 pound of weight per week for the healthiest results. This slow rate of weight loss encourages long-term body fat losses. And those are the kind of losses that you want!
For example, if your goal is to lose 1 pound of body weight per week, then you could accomplish that by reducing your caloric intake each day by 300 - and then burning off an extra 200 calories each day through exercise. If this were the case, you would be ridding yourself of 500 calories each day that you are used to taking in and not burning away. That way, in one week's time, you would have burned 3500 calories (7 x 500).
The amount of calories that you are able to burn in a given day will depend upon:
Your body weight;
The activities that you perform;
The duration of those activities;
The intensity of those activities;
Your level of motivation;
Your body's ability to recuperate;
Your hydration levels;
Your nutrient levels;
So you see, each human being will have a different maximal calorie amount that they can burn each day. Of course, a person can't just continually exercise. And if you try to overdo things, you will likely incur injury or simply be unable to continue. Obviously, performing high intensity aerobics for 3 hours straight would burn loads of calories, but even world-class athletes would be unable to perform like that. So the question is not how many calories can a human burn in a given day, but how many calories can `you` burn each day. And - the answer to that question will vary from day to day.
That's why it's important to simply develop a sensible plan for physical activity and food intake. By far, the best approach is to make permanent lifestyle modifications that you can adhere to. It's not that difficult to drop 10 pounds rapidly; it's just that you probably won't keep those pounds off unless you develop a sustainable plan. The bottom line is that you have to approach the situation slowly and logically. Don't worry about how many calories you can burn in a given day. Instead, think about how you can consistently burn a smaller amount of calories day after day for long-enduring results.
