Frugal Family Fitness and FunAren't you bored of spending hours every week at the gym, just sitting on a bike, running nowhere on a treadmill, or lifting weights over and over? Wouldn't it be so much more fun to get in shape in the comfort of your home - not to mention a whole lot cheaper? The good news: getting fit can be fun and cheap - especially if you work on your fitness and fun at the same time! You can have fun with your family, and just throw fitness and exercise into the mix. Want to know how? It's quite simple, really!
Do It With ThemYour kids may love to play dance games on their Wii or Xbox, or they may blast the music when they're cleaning their room. Why not join them when they get the music going? You can dance away the pounds by shaking it to the fun tunes they have on games like Just Dance or Dance Dance Revolution, and you can have a whole lot of fun rocking out to the latest songs your kids love to listen to. You can actually work on your fitness and fun together, and it will be a great way to work out with your kids.
You probably played games like Hide and Seek, Tag, and Hopscotch when you were younger, but it's been years since you tried your hand at them. Why not spend time running around and playing with your kids? It can be a lot of fun for you all to play together, especially if you get some of their friends together for the games at the park. You can run around and make a fool of yourself, and your kids will love you for it. You can mix fitness and fun, and it will help you to get a bit more exercise in your day when you run around screaming and laughing with your kids.
Try their ToysYour kids may have all kinds of toys that will help them to mix fitness and fun, such as hula hoops, Teeball stands, or jump ropes. Who says you can't get right in there and have fun with them too? You may be terrible at jumping rope, but a bit of practice will go a long way towards helping you get better - and it's probably the best aerobic exercise you can do. Take a swing at the teeball, or shake those hips with your kids. The more you practice, the better you get - and the more exercise you get!
Hike or BikeWant to spend your weekend doing something fun with your kids? Why not take them for a hike up the mountain, or drag them along with you for a bike ride. Kids love to do stuff outdoors, and you can get in shape by cycling, hiking, or even just walking with them. Take a stroll along the beach to collect shells, or break out the mountain bikes for a fun mountain cycling trip. Get down in the mud and dirt on your hiking trip, or scramble up a mountain with walking sticks and a fun picnic. Your kids will love it, and it's great exercise!
Do SportsYou can play sports with your kids, and it will build a bond together while helping you get excellent exercise. You'll find that doing these team sports together can be a lot of fun, but it will also help you to move around a bit more. Even if you're not running to catch the touchdown throw, you'll still have to dodge the kids trying to "tackle" you. You'll add a bit more activity to your day, and your kids will love the fact that you're playing with them!
