Get Motivated to Work Out EarlyWith the recent schedule changes, it can be damn hard to get up in the morning. You may just be too tired to get up in the morning and get in that early workout. But you can't let your tiredness stop you! Check out the tips below to find your motivation (or the kick in your butt) to get up and work out early:
Upgrade Your AlarmIf you can hit the Snooze button easily, your alarm clock isn't going to do you any good! First of all, set the alarm clock on the other side of the room, where you have to leap out of bed to reach it. Then, force yourself to actually stay out of bed once you've shut off the alarm. Finally, get an alarm clock that DOESN'T turn off easily--an alarm clock that flies away, rolls away, or that won't shut off until you shoot it. There are lots of novelty alarm clocks you can use to stop yourself from hitting snooze and rolling over.
Set a GoalThe best way to force yourself to do something you don't enjoy is to set a goal. Set yourself the goal of getting to the gym just five mornings a week, and stick with it no matter how tired you are. Plan to reward your efforts after a month of success. Keep track of your efforts, and it will be much easier to see how you are performing!
Pair UpOne of the main reasons people don't go to the gym is due to boredom. It's hard to push yourself through a workout you don't really enjoy. But why not bring a friend to the gym with you and work out together? It's much easier to work out early in the morning if you're doing it as a social thing. You can also make friends at the gym, and making new friends will give you the push you need to get that workout in!
What will drive you to push yourself and work harder? Is it your favorite TV show, played on your iPod while you run? Is it an awesome audiobook playing in your ears while you lift? Is it a wicked workout playlist pumping you up to work harder and go faster? You'll find that there are many ways to entertain yourself at the gym, and these entertainment methods will make it much easier to push yourself and keep boredom at bay.
Be PreparedWant to make it as easy as possible to get to the gym in the morning? Have everything ready the night before! Fill up your water bottle and place it in the fridge (or freezer) to get cold. Set out your running or workout clothes, along with your gym shoes and a clean pair of socks. Pack your gym bag, charge your MP3 player, and prep your workout entertainment the night before. Come first thing in the morning, all you'll need to do is roll out of bed, get dressed, and head out the door before anything distracts you or reminds you that you're too tired to work out early!
Treat Yo'Self!Parks and Recreation got it right! When you've been working hard (at the gym as well as at the office), it's always a good idea to treat yourself to a reward. You don't want to do something that will set your efforts back (such as over-eating), but you can give yourself a new outfit, a date night with the spouse, or even an extra morning to sleep in. Totally worth it!
