Lose Weight on the Dukan DietDid you know that you can eat what you love and still lose weight on the Dukan Diet? The Dukan Diet, created by Dr. Pierre Dukan of France, allows dieters to eat whatever they want. Surprisingly, it has been very effective for weight loss. What is the Dukan Diet and how does it work? The Dukan Diet is a four-phase, high protein, low calorie diet. It does not involve calorie counting or weighing food. In fact, it permits dieters to eat as much as they want, as long as they start off eating lean protein, which is the focus of the diet. Dieters typically lose up to two pounds a day in the first phase of this diet.
The Attack Phase. Here’s how to lose weight on the Dukan Diet during the attack phase. Eat as much lean protein (fish and eggs) as you like. However, you must eat at least 1.5 tablespoons of oat bran daily during the attack phase. The oat bran will curb your appetite by helping you feel full faster. It will also support your digestive system by regulating bowel movements. Do not eat fats or carbohydrates at this time. The body will burn the stored fat supply. Stay on the attack phase for up to 10 days; You can expect to lose up to ten pounds.
The Cruise Phase. The Cruise Phase includes the attack phase, but allows you to add non-starchy vegetables on alternating days. The Dukan Diet cruise phase usually last ten weeks, or until you reach your desired weight. In other words, you will be able to eat all the vegetables and lean proteins that you want for the next ten weeks or so. Once you reach your weight loss goal you can move on to the consolidation phase. The Consolidation Phase. After you are able to lose weight on the Dukan Diet during the attack and cruise phases, you'll need to maintain the weight loss while incorporation additional foods into your diet. During the consolidation phase include carbohydrates, fruits, vegetables, cheese, and whole grains in your diet. Each week during the consolidation phase, eat two meals that consists of anything you want, including junk foods. One day each week you must follow the requirements of the attack phase – eat lean protein and oat bran. Dr. Dukan recommends staying in the consolidation phase five days for each pound that you’ve lost since starting the diet. The stabilization Phase. In order to permanently lose weight on the Dukan Diet, you must commit to following this phase for the rest of your life. Many people are yo-yo dieters, gaining and losing weight in cycles. The Dukan Diet stabilization phase is designed to keep the weight from returning. You are allowed to eat whatever you want for the rest of your life as long as you follow three simple rules: One - Eat only lean protein one day each week. Two - Eat 3 tablespoons of oat bran everyday. Three - Walk 20 minutes a day and always take the stairs. If you follow these three rules you can eat whatever you want six days a week and maintain your weight loss. Lose weight on the Dukan Diet considerations. Talk to your doctor before starting any new weight loss diet, especially if you have an existing health condition or take medication. Consider taking a multivitamin during the first two phases of the Dukan Diet while your intake of vegetables and fruits is limited. You may experience constipation, dry mouth, and fatigue when starting the Dukan Diet.
