Low Calorie Food List
There are times in all of our lives when we feel that we could lose a little weight. Perhaps there’s an important wedding coming up, or a holiday that will require getting into a bikini for the first time in five years.
No one likes to feel uncomfortable in his or her own body, but it’s important to remember that weight loss is not just about crash dieting, or exercising like a mad person. Losing weight is about incorporating exercise into your lifestyle, as well as healthy eating with low calorie foods.

Living Healthily
By making these changes, your whole life changes. You are not ‘trying to lose weight’; you are ‘living healthily’. Somehow that sounds a lot more appealing and a lot less like punishment, doesn’t it?
Losing weight boils down to a rather simple equation – Calories consumed versus Calories spent. If you burn more calories than you consume, your body has to use stored energy (fat) to keep going. In this way, you are going easier on your body and avoiding the possible dangers of yo-yo dieting.
Eating Low Calorie Foods
It is therefore important not only that you try and get moving more, but also that you eat foods that are not calorie rich. There are certain foods (unfortunately the ones that we tend to like most) that are just too rich in calories.
If we choose to eat foods that are lower in calories, we can cheat our bodies though. In some ways it boils down to tricking your stomach. If you eat a whole lot of low calorie food (within reason), you can make your stomach feel full and sated, and lose weight at the same time.
Feeling Full
You may think that low calorie food is something you can only do at home, with adequate preparation, but it is really quite easy to eat healthy on the go.
If you start incorporating low calorie foods into your diet, you will be able to still feel full and that you’ve eaten well, without packing on the pounds. Before you know it you’ll be able to fit into that little black dress, wedding dress or tuxedo that’s been sitting in the back of your cupboard for years.
Take a look at the list below to get an idea of the vast range of foods you can eat without worrying about going too hard on the calories. Turning to a low calorie lifestyle is not a punishment – it’s the first step to better life.

I have a chronic back condition that doesn't allow me to do much walking. So no running or lifting of any kind. I have lost 25-30 pounds since last year, yet I just feel like I am starving. I would love if I could get a steady diet change that provides the nutrition needed, low calories, yet enough for me to not feel like I am starving. PLEASE HELP!!
Hi Denise, I am like you trying my hardest to be healthy and lose weight, but I have been so hungry!! I am eating low cal foods but when I am hungry I have a small cup of this low cal home made soup . It is so easy and cheap to make.. All you need is one and a half pounds of fresh carrots, one large onion and a small sprig of fresh coriander.. Peel and chop the carrots and onion and place in a large pan, and put approx 4 pints of water in add a little salt and bring to the boil, simmer for half an hour and then add the sprig of coriander. Cook for a further 2 mins and then allow to cool. When cool put it in a blender and it makes the most tasty soup. If you buy this type of soup fresh in the supermarkets it costs a fortune, This soup also freezes really well. Hope this helps.. Michelle.
Denise and Michelle,
Soups are excellent for filling your tummy up without the calories.
Here's my homemade tomato soup (don't buy soup at the store, it's full of sodium and added flavors).
For 4 people - excellent to freeze
4 medium size ripe tomatoes
1 onion
1 potato
1 carrot
1-3 cloves of garlic
4-5 cups of water
1 cup of milk
salt, pepper
1. Cut up the tomatoes, onions, potatoes, and carrots into super large chunks.
2. In a pot, add all the veggies and four to five cups of water, or enough to just cover the veggies.
3. Simmer on medium heat until carrot and potato are soft.
4. Get your blender out. Add a couple scoops of the water-veggie mixture. Be careful not to overfill because of the hot liquid.
5. Do this until all the veggies and water are pureed.
Keep the stove on low heat and add a cup of milk, dash of salt and pepper to taste.
Let sit for 10 minutes and then eat up!

I am a nursing student and with the degree program that i have chosen, i find it hard to lose weight because of the time we need to spend on studying. The tendency is, when I study and I eat a light dinner, I get hungry. what should i do?
Hi Sam,
It sounds like mindless eating while studying might be an issue for you. Keeping a food journal can help bring greater awareness to your eating habits so you can pinpoint possible pitfalls. Also, being hungry is the worst enemy of every dieter because that is when you are most likely to overeat. Plan consistent meals and snacks throughout the day and study time and stick to them. Drink plenty of water and snack on nutritious low calorie foods like veggies dipped in hummus or fresh fruit and yogurt. Good Luck!
Here is a really yummy soup that can be eaten cold or hot!
1 large eggplant
1 large zucchini
1 large bunch of dill
10 baby carrots cut in half
2 cloves garlic
1/2 bunch parsley
1 large sweet potato
Cut up all ingredients, place in pot, and cover with water. Don't worry if ingredients reach to the top of the pot, they will cook down. When everything is nice and soft, drain off one cup of water. Use an immersion blender to puree the rest. Refrigerate. This will keep for at least two weeks in the fridge and can be eaten hot or cold. Enjoy!
Sounds Delicious! Thanks Sharon
