Mind Matters

Losing weight is more than just calories consumed versus calories consumed. With mind power, you can lose more weight.

Even though there are over 600 muscles in the body, if our most important muscle is not being worked out, we will never achieve the results we hope for. And in case you’re wondering what that muscle is, it’s your brain.

Many studies have shown that for weight loss to be effective, dieters have to ensure that their minds are in the right place. It begins with an attitude change, which can affect the rest if your life positively for years to come. If you can drill it into your mind that you want to live a healthy lifestyle, you will find the results to be huge.

The point is that convincing yourself that you want to live a healthy lifestyle will make it easier for you to stick to your commitments. If your mind is focused on nothing more than losing weight, you will find it difficult to make the changes necessary to achieve the results you are aiming for.

A healthy lifestyle does not need to be a punishment, but unfortunately in our society – the word “diet” has become a word associated it with punishment. If you can associate positive things with your weight loss goals you will find it infinitely easier to lose weight, feel good and become the person you always wanted to be.

The great thing about these sorts of attitude changes is that they gain momentum as you move forward. As you aim to feel better about yourself and live a healthy lifestyle, you will start feeling more positive as soon as you start to see the results. And as success breeds more success, you should be snowballing your way to shedding those inches and feeling good.

Now that we know the benefits of having a positive mind and outlook when it comes to losing weight, we need to ask ourselves what techniques we can use to achieve this mental shift.

Sometimes it’s as simple as being conscious of what you are doing. It is so easy to come home from work, stand in front of the fridge and stuff your face with easy to find snack foods. But if you take the time out to step back and think: Am I really hungry? Do I really need to eat this? You will be able to save yourself a huge amount of worry and a huge number of calories by using this technique.

Another way to lose weight that is often suggested by the professionals is visualization. If you take the time every morning to sit quietly and visualize the pounds falling off, you will find it easier to make the decisions that will lead to fitting into that dress you’ve had in your closet for years.

As with all commitments in life, losing weight takes discipline and dedication. If your mind is not in the right place, you will never reach the goals you have set for yourself. But if you train your brain to make the right decisions, swap that soda for some water, exchange the candy bar for an apple, you will find that the changes and the results come thick and fast.

Weight loss does not need to be a punishment or something that you have to suffer through. If you don’t have the right attitude towards it, you will never stick to your proposed plans and you will never achieve what you wish to achieve. So, if you get your mind in the right place, you could be down at the beach sooner than you think.
