Cobra Stretch for Stomach MusclesAn important stretch if the torso will be moving vigorously and unpredictably during an exercise, such as playing badminton or squash sports. The Cobra will stretch the muscles of the stomach, it will also help loosen up the lower back and spine so it is a great compliment to the spine stretch.
How to do the Cobra Stretch* Start by lying face down, flat on the floor with your feet together. Position your hands to the sides about shoulder level. Gently push your upper body off the floor a few inches at a time, while keeping the legs on the ground. It should feel like you're doing a press up but relaxing the stomach and back muscles. Keep looking up at all times and push slowly a little at a time until you feel the stretch in the stomach or lower back muscles. If this stretch feels uncomfortable just push a few inches off the floor then leave it till the next time. This is a complicated and tough stretch so I would advise you perform this stretch under the guidance of a qualified instructor.
* Remember it's much safer to under stretch than to overstretch. Always remain within the comfortable stretch zone. Never go to the point where you cannot possibly stretch any more as this could do more harm than good! If you feel any pain or discomfort at any stage of the stretch then stop the stretch immediately! Never force a stretch even if you are attempting to increase flexibility.
