The Idiot Proof Diet

Many people don’t enjoy life while on a diet and this was particularly true for Neris Thomas and India Knight. However, they were unhappy with their total weight being 434 pounds and they decided to do something about it.

Instead of following one of the traditional low carb diets, they decided to try something new and document their experience. They lost 140 pounds together using a diet all their own, the Idiot Proof Diet. This diet surrounds the ideas of the Atkins Diet but allows some wiggle room with enjoyable foods that allows the dieter to feel free from being deprived or hungry while on the Idiot Proof Diet.

The Basics Surrounding the Idiot Proof Diet

The first step in this diet, is for dieters to write down why they want to lose weight. Do you want to lose weight to live a healthier life? Are you doing it for your children? There are always tough days ahead of you when you are on a diet and for this reason you can look back to why you are on this diet to help inspire you to move on.

For the first two weeks, you are limited to a very low carb diet such as that of the Atkins diet. You should lower your carb intake to as low as possible and cut out all caffeine. This will help to cleanse your system. You can expect to lose about 8 to 15 pounds in these first two weeks. After this introductory period, you can gradually begin to add carbohydrates to your diet which can vary between 40 to 100 grams of carbs per day. In this stage, you lose weight until you hit your goal.

In the final phase of this diet, you maintain your weight and can add more carbs to your diet. If you keep losing weight then you are recommended to eat more carbs. If you begin to gain weight again, then you simply begin to adjust your carb levels by consuming less. You should stay away from refined carbohydrates and sugars such as pasta, rice, bread, potatoes and deserts.

Foods Recommended for the Idiot Proof Diet

The foods that are highly recommended to be consumed while on the idiot proof diet include:

  • Chicken
  • Green Vegetables
  • Butter
  • Avocado
  • Herbal tea
  • Nuts

The foods used for this diet are regular foods that you probably are already eating. There are no exotic foods that are hard to get. Simple food that you are already accustomed to eating which makes the dieting process much easier. There is no calorie counting which is nice for many people. The Idiot Proof Diet is fairly easy to follow.

Beware that the Idiot Proof Diet is not a recommended diet by most nutritionists and dietitians. Plus, there are not many support groups for fellow idiots. While funny in name and seemingly easy, we don’t recommend the diet. And be sure to speak with your doctor about any diets you embark on.
