Tips to Help You Stay Motivated on a Diet

Without motivation, losing weight is an uphill battle. Regardless of your reason to lose weight, it’s incredibly important that you have the motivation to continue with your weight loss goals and to not give up. But that can be incredibly hard and challenging when faced with a pint of Ben and Jerry’s after a long, hard day at the office.

Keeping motivated in your weight loss goals will be what will keep you from back tracking and giving up. We’ve put together a list of Five Motivations for Weight Loss to help keep you on track and inspired!

 

  1. Space Out Your Goals
  2. Losing weight is a lifestyle change: you change your diet and you add exercise into your daily regime. Switching from processed foods and fast foods to whole grains and fresh produce can be hard and so can implementing 30 minutes of exercise a into your daily schedule. Instead of expecting immediate results, give yourself time to make your weight loss goal a part of your life. This will help to ensure long lasting results so you can keep the pounds off for good.
    Give yourself monthly weight loss goals until you’ve reached your desired weight. Even if it takes 6 months or a year, it means that you’ve changed your life for the better.

  3. Health
  4. Even if you’re just losing weight to fit in those skinny jeans from five years ago, health is an important factor in weight loss. By choosing a healthy diet you can increase your mood, vision, and memory. A healthy diet also ensures that your body is functioning properly. If you are over weight, you are at risk diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and death.

  5. Family and Friends
  6. Having support from family and friends means that you have a network of people who believe in you. Let people know of your goal and ask them to help you keep it. You might even find others who have similar goals and you can start a plan together. Ask a friend to go to the gym with you to keep you accountable, having the company and accountability will help you stay on track. Plus, it’s always more fun to work out and eat right with others who are doing the same or who support your goal.

  7. Creativity in the Kitchen
  8. Eating healthy and nutritious meals can be incredibly boring. But often, you can recreate some of your favorite high calorie, high fat meals at home with less calories and less fat. Instead of a greasy cheese pizza opt for whole grain pasta with fresh tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese. Make grocery shopping into a fun experience and start collecting healthy recipes.  You don’t always have to focus on low-fat, low-cal, diet friendly foods but instead, if you focus on nutritional, healthy foods you’ll find there’s a lot of room for creativity in the kitchen.

  9. Feeling Good
  10. Like we said earlier, losing weight is a life style change. If you choose to lose weight in a healthy way it means your choosing good, nutritional foods and exercise. It means you will be at your physical best and feeding your body vital vitamins, minerals, proteins, good fats and sugar, and other nutrients. You body will feel better and so will you. Even after a week of eating well you’ll notice a change, just think of how you will feel after month! Keep this in mind as you make your way through some challenging times and you’ll be sure to succeed.

Staying motivated in your weight loss goals can be difficult, which is why motivation is so important. Even if you slip up and go for that cheeseburger or chili fries (or even both!) just know that tomorrow you got extra work to do. Keep your goals realistic and possible and soon they’ll be achievable.  Through a good support network, exciting meals, feeling good and healthy, and ensuring exciting meals, you be on your way toe healthier and slimmer you.
