What You Need to Know About the Corset Diet

The Corset Diet is a diet that has become hugely popular in recent months, and yet it's still a pretty controversial one. Since Jessica Alba used it to drop her post-baby pounds, it has become a popular option for those trying to lose a bit of weight. However, before you start the diet, you need to know a bit more about it…

What is the Corset Diet?

Corsets are old-fashioned garments that women used to wear over 100 years ago, as they helped to maintain the appearance of a slimmer waistline. The garment is very constricting, and it can cause you to sweat a lot around your midsection. The fact that it makes you sweat so much is why people believe that it's an effective garment to use for your weight loss. You know how people have wrapped saran wrap around their waist to help them sweat more, believing that more sweat means more weight loss? The corset used as part of the Corset Diet does the same thing, and it makes you sweat a whole lot. Jessica Alba wore a double corset 24 hours a day for three long months, and she claims that it helped her to drop those extra pounds clinging to her waist after her pregnancy.

For those trying the Corset Diet, you start out wearing a corset for about three to six hours per day. The corset is between 4 and 5 inches smaller than your waist, and wearing it helps to compress the belly fat. You work up to wearing the corset all day long, with the hope that wearing it will cause you to sweat and lose weight.

Does the Corset Diet Work?

Unfortunately for all of those on the Corset Diet, all you're going to do is cause health problems!Wearing a corset has been discontinued not just because they're supremely uncomfortable, but they can also cause health problems. The pressure placed on your stomach can compress it, which can lead to serious problems with acid reflux. It may put excess pressure on your lungs, making it difficult for you to breathe. You may even find that it places unnecessary pressure on your core muscles, weakening them and causing you to have poor posture.

In addition, there's a very real risk that you will continue to sweat far more than you should. Sweating is good for weight loss, as it proves that your body is overheating and getting rid of sodium and toxins. However, too much sweating can lead to dehydration, but it won't lead to weight loss. It just decreases the amount of water present in your body, but decreasing your water storage too much can cause your body to retain water.

You'll find that the Corset Diet stops you from being able to get a good workout. Your midsection is almost completely immobilized in the corset, so there's no way that you'll be able to do anything beyond standing up and sitting down. For those who are trying to work out and get in shape, exercise is the key to your success  - so the Corset Diet hinders that success!

If you're trying to lose weight, stay away from gimmicky tricks like the Corset Diet. It really isn't going to help you lose weight, and it may actually set you back on all of the progress that you've made in your diet and weight loss efforts. Just stick with a healthy diet and exercise program, and you can be sure that you'll lose all the weight the safe, healthy way!
