5 Major Life Choices to Keep You Healthy

It’s time to make a few major life choices if you want to have a long, happy life! Life is made up of hundreds of small decisions made every day, and the truth is that all of those little decisions affect you in larger ways than you could imagine. For those who are trying to be healthy, here are five decisions you need to make TODAY:

Start Exercising

It doesn’t matter if you begin to run, jog, cycle, walk, lift weights, dance, take up a sport, practice Yoga, or learn martial arts. As long as you start doing some form of exercise, you’ll be doing the right thing! Exercise benefits your body in so many ways. Not only does it help you to burn fat and build muscle, but it keeps your hormones balanced, reduces stress, increases the amount of energy available to your body, and prevents a wide range of disorders and diseases. Basically, adding exercise to your life in some small form is the key to being both healthier and happier!

Quit Smoking

Smoking may help you to relax or handle the stressors of your day, but do you have any idea what it’s doing to your body? Yes, you may have heard the warnings about smoking causing cancer, but you need to realize that smoking is going to reduce your energy, stop you from breathing properly, affect your sex drive, and even increase your risk of DYING from a heart attack. Within a few days of quitting, your body is noticeably healthier. Though it takes a few years for the effects of smoking to completely disappear, you’ll notice improved health right away. It’s a tough ask, but it’s one of the best choices you can make for your body!

Cut Back on Boozing

Alcohol definitely helps you to enjoy your weekends and takes the stress out of the end of the day, but drinking too much can almost be worse for you than smoking! Alcohol basically poisons your body, and it can do irreparable damage to your liver if you’re not careful. It can also reduce your body’s absorption of the food and liquid you consume, making it harder for you to get the proper nutrients. A glass of wine or beer per day has been proven to be healthy for you, but more than that and you’re just tempting fate!

Lose Weight

This is, of course, ALWAYS easier said than done. Weight loss does not come easy, and it’s an uphill battle to shed those extra pounds of body fat. But the truth is that you need to lose weight if you want to lead a healthy life. Obesity increases your risk of heart disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and a host of other health problems ranging from mildly annoying to absolutely threatening. If you want to live past the age of 55 or 60, you need to take steps to start losing weight now.

Eat Right

Yet another life choice that is easier said than done. There are so many unhealthy food options out there that are wonderful and tasty and enjoyable, but that’s where your self-discipline needs to kick in. It’s time to cut back on all the unhealthy trans fats you eat (from fried, greasy, and processed foods), artificial ingredients, excess sugar, white and refined flours, and empty calories. Start making the healthier choices: whole grains, nuts, seeds, veggies, fruits, lean proteins, and dairy products. Eating right will go a long way towards keeping you healthy, fighting off the disorders and health problems that come from growing older, and giving you a long, happy life!
