If we said that we loved the holiday because we get to spend time with family, we’d probably be lying just a little a bit. The truth of the matter is that most of us enjoy the holidays because we don’t have to work, we get to sit around and watch TV, and we get to shove our faces with some delicious food.
This can lead to some serious weight gain over the holidays and often serious work on losing weight after the holidays, however, and a lot of us will end up asking Santa how to get rid of holiday fat instead of asking old Saint Nick for a new Blackberry.
Tips to Get Rid of or Lose that Holiday Fat
Now, by cold turkey, we don’t mean to quit eating altogether. You can take this tip literally. For example: instead of fixing a huge plate of leftovers to shove your face yet again after the fact, throw a couple of pieces of turkey on some whole wheat bread with some mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and other fresh ingredients.
Thanksgiving and Christmas leftovers can turn into healthy meals if you actually want them to be. And in order to lose that holiday fat, it’s time to put them to use for you.
Make sure you’re counting your calories, also. You don’t want to be taking in more than 1,500/daily, and you’ll want to avoid any added sugars, oils/fats, etc.
Enjoy your foods moderately. Always drink plenty of water with your meals, skip that dessert if you possibly can, and eat smaller portions throughout the day. By eating smaller meals around 4 or more per day, you’ll experience more energy and less hunger by eating far fewer calories. This definitely helps you to burn off that holiday fat.
We shove our faces with carbs over the holidays. Those mashed potatoes, that stuffing, the yeast rolls, the macaroni and cheese, every single one of your desserts – it’s all carbs and it’s all bad for you. So, since you’ve ate so many carbs, now is the time to limit them. Stay away from sugars, white (refined/bleached) flour, and other foods with a lot of carbs.
Going the Extra Mile
When it boils down to it, if you follow the previous steps, you already know how to get rid of holiday fat if you know how to walk! I know that sounds simple, but that’s because it is simple. Sure, if you jogged or did any type of cardio, or even any type of weight training mixed in, that would be ideal. But simply walking for 20 or 30 minutes a day will help you to burn that holiday fat.
