Lose Weight Fast With the Grapefruit Diet

The grapefruit diet is a popular choice for those looking to lose weight fast and easy. It can help you lose up to twelve pounds in a period of two weeks, but it must be followed exactly, and complemented by a healthy and regular exercise regimen. If you can’t keep off the snack foods and commit to at least a brisk 30 minute walk every day, the grapefruit diet will be about as effective as any other diet that you cheat on, and that’s not very.

First off, the grapefruit diet doesn’t mean you only eat grapefruit! It does, however, mean that you include a grapefruit with every major meal, and substitute snacks with grapefruits. If grapefruits really aren’t to your taste, then perhaps this is not the crash diet for you!

As well as grapefruit you are allowed to eat the following vegetables, and you should do so whenever possible:

  • Red onions
  • Green onions
  • Bell peppers
  • Radishes
  • Cucumbers
  • Broccoli
  • Spinach
  • Lettuce
  • Cabbage
  • Peas
  • Carrots

You should avoid celery, white onions and potatoes.

The idea is that you follow the grapefruit diet for twelve days, with two days off. In order to keep losing weight, you’ll need to restart the diet after these two days. However, if you only have two weeks to lose weight fast and easy, then this is a great way to do it.

Remember, all grapefruit juice should be unsweetened, and if you have to have sugar with your grapefruit, use a sugar substitute.

  • Breakfast
    Breakfast is important, especially when you’re on a diet as eating a healthy breakfast will help you to feel fuller for longer, and prevent those mid-morning snacks. Breakfast on the grapefruit diet should be:

    • 1/2 Grapefruit or 8 oz. Grapefruit Juice
    • Black Coffee
    • 2 Eggs
    • 2 Slices Bacon
  • Lunch
    Your lunch should be big enough to fill you up, but not too big to fit on a 9-inch plate. You are allowed to have any amount of meat with your diet, but no starch! Here’s a recommended grapefruit diet lunch.

    • 1/2 Grapefruit or 8 oz. Grapefruit Juice
    • Salad with dressing
    • Meat any amount
  • Dinner
    Dinner can be tricky, with the rest of your family all eating normally. However, you can counter this by simply replacing the starch in the meal with half a grapefruit and a glass of grapefruit juice. This will be the hardest time of day for you to stick to your diet, but remember if you can get this right for 10 nights in a row you’ll be well on your way to losing weight fast and easy:

    • 1/2 Grapefruit or 8 oz. Grapefruit Juice
    • Meat or fish unlimited amount
    • Vegetables or salad

Remember to keep your grapefruit and grapefruit juice unsweetened. You can have any meat you like with your meals, but cut off all fat, and avoid starch at all costs!

As with any short-term diet also the grapefruit diet come along with side effects such as

  • regaining the lost weight after the diet
  • insufficient supply of important nutrients
  • food cravings during the diet

If you wish to lose weight for a longer period, only a healthy diet, change of life style and regular exercise will be succesfull.
