It’s not easy to wake up in the morning! Your body is designed to sleep with the sunset and wake up with the sunrise, but electric lights have totally thrown off our sleep schedules. Now, many people stay up into the wee hours of the night and sleep in. But the old adage is correct, “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” Waking up early gives you more time in the day, and more energy to complete your tasks. If you want to know how to wake up easier, here are a few tricks to help you out:
Make it a Morning Workout
It may seem like a terrible idea at first, but after a few weeks, you’ll find yourself looking forward to that morning run or gym session. You’ll feel more energized, and you’ll wake up more easily. It takes dedication to roll out of bed and slip on your workout clothes, but within a few weeks, it will be a lot easier to do.
Wake Up on the Weekends
Did you know that sleeping in on the weekends, glorious as it may be, actually makes it harder to wake up during the week? Sleeping in throws off your regular sleep schedule, and it can take your body a few days to get back to “normal”. No one wants to wake up at 6 AM on the weekends, but sticking to your regular sleep schedule can be the best way to make it easier to wake up during the week.
If you already know what you’re going to do in the morning, it makes it much easier to simply get up and DO. Plan your morning, prepare your clothes the night before, and leave everything ready. That way, when you get up, all you have to do is slip into your clothes and head off to the gym or the office. It can be overwhelming to make a lot of decisions first thing in the morning, so eliminate decisions and make mornings MUCH easier on yourself.
Jump Out of Bed
For many people, the secret of how to wake up easier is to simply JUMP out of bed. Try it: set the alarm clock on a shelf across the room. When you hear it ring in the morning, leap out of bed and rush to turn it off quickly. You’ll be wide awake by the time you’ve finished shutting off the alarm, and ready to get on with your day.
Ease Into It
The very thought of leaping out of bed may cause your blood to run cold, but you don’t have to try it. Instead, ease into the waking-up process. Start off by setting your alarm to ring 30 minutes earlier for a week or two, then 60 minutes earlier. Slowly get your body acclimated to the earlier wake-up, until your sleep schedule has adjusted to the new wake-up time.
The key to knowing how to wake up easier is consistency. If you wake up at the same time every day, your body will start waking up on its own before the alarm clock rings. Of course, that means you also need to go to sleep at the same time every night. The more consistent you are with your sleep schedule, the easier it will be for your body to adjust to it. Eventually, your internal clock will wake you up at the right time, but ONLY if you are consistent with your sleep schedule.
