Learn to Develop a Six Pack

Who doesn’t want a six pack? Most guys–and a lot of gals–dream of the day when they can stand in front of the mirror and see those abdominal muscles rippling in front of them. They work hard to build that six pack, but they often go about it the WRONG way!

If you want to develop a six pack, here’s what you need to know…

It’s All About Diet

The way you eat can make or break your six pack!

If you eat a lot of high-fat foods, you’ll find that your belly fat is increasingly difficult to burn. That belly fat is always the most stubborn, and improper diet can stop it from ever being completely eliminated. The key to burning off your belly fat is to reduce the amount of fat you eat, though don’t cut out fat altogether! Your body needs fat in order to feel free to burn fat. It’s an odd cycle, but that’s the way the body works.

Your goal should be to eat a LOT of protein, as protein helps to increase muscular development. The more muscle you build around your body, the easier it will be to burn the belly fat and build those prominent ab muscles.

Finally, cut back on the amount of sugar, refined grains, and artificial products in your diet. All of these things can cause belly bloat, which will only make it harder for you to build that six pack. They also stop you from burning fat, so they’ve got to go!

Don’t Forget the Cardio

Cardiovascular exercise is NOT going to build the six pack, but it will help you to get rid of the excess fat around your body. While anaerobic exercise helps you to build muscle mass and burn more calories, it can’t target fat as effectively as cardio. It’s important to add a bit of cardio into your workouts, though not so much that your body is forced to break down muscle tissue.

The best type of cardio for a six pack: HIIT! HIIT means High Intensity Interval Training, and basically it calls for:

  • 20 to 30 seconds of high intensity cardio
  • 30 to 90 seconds of low intensity cardio

You can mix and match however you feel able, but doing HIIT cardio will help to target belly fat and increase the number of calories you burn. Best of all, you can burn more in 20 minutes of HIIT training than you would with 40 minutes of jogging!

Hit the Weights Hard

Finally, the most important element in your six pack building: the weights.

You cannot JUST train your abs, but you need to train your entire body. You need to build muscle around your entire frame, as increasing lean muscle mass will increase your metabolism. The faster your metabolism runs, the more calories you’ll burn every day–meaning the more of your belly fat you’ll get rid of.

You should spend time training those abs muscles–doing Plank Holds, Crunches, V-Ups, and all the other awesome exercises–but don’t ONLY focus on your abs. Hit your obliques (side muscles) as well to get rid of your love handles, and give your lower back some love.

Spend most of your time sculpting the rest of your body, and you’ll be able to build a solid physique. With just 45 to 60 minutes of abs workout per week, you’ll find that your six pack begins to show through in no time.

Combine these three elements above, and you have a MUCH better chance of finally getting that six pack you’ve always dreamed of!
