Losing Weight by Drinking Water

Water is one of the most beneficial aids in weight loss.  It helps keep your body hydrated, functioning properly, and can help suppress your appetite in between and during meals. When on a diet, make sure you are getting plenty of water to experience maximum weight loss benefits.

The Weight Loss Benefits of Water

  • You should drink at least eight glasses of water a day. Water helps to boost your metabolic rate, which gives your body energy to burn unwanted calories. Drinking the right amount of water a day can increase your metabolism by 3%.  Water hydrates your organs and muscles and keeps your body in shape.
  • Water also contains no calories. It’s the choice drink for anyone on a diet especially if you usually drink sugary sodas. Choosing water will save you from extra calories, bad sugars and syrups, and the inevitable “sugar high crash.”
  • Feeling hungry and thirsty often occurs at the same time, which can lead to mindless snacking and extra calories. Instead of that bag of chips, grab a glass of water or a food that has high water content such as apples, a slice of watermelon, or tomatoes. This will help suppress your appetite in between meals.
  • Try drinking a glass of water at least 15 minutes before you eat, as this will help your body to think it’s full and help you exercise portion control.  Also, keep a glass of water close at hand when eating and take sips every few bites, which will help you to feel full faster.

A great way to make sure you are getting eight cups a day of water is to have a premeasured water bottle. Measure out one cup of water an hour and drink it within the hour. This will help you feel refreshed, energized, and keep you from unwanted snacking.
