Wine Carbohydrates

If you’re on a low carb diet you’re probably watching every bite and continually checking the carb content on the nutrition labels. However, you can’t forget about your drinks! The juice, soda, flavored water, and alcohol you drink can also be fairly high-carb, so you have to include those in your carbohydrate calculations.

Hard alcohol is mostly low-carb (save for a few, like brandy or cognac), but what about wine? Can you drink a glass of wine without worrying about the carbs (or the calories), or do you need to eliminate it from your diet?

Note: It is recommended by most experts that you limit or eliminate alcohol from your diet if your goal is weight loss. Alcohol slows down digestion, adds unnecessary carbs, and causes your body to store fat.

While wine does add some carbs to your diet, it can offer health benefits that go far beyond weight loss or fat burning. It’s up to you make the decision of whether you value the health benefits wine offers or your efforts for losing weight.
